Only this week, the day before the unfortunate passing of one of our great and courageous Prime Ministers, we raised an issue regarding the Unity Flag symbolizing French and English-speaking Canadians together. Mr. Trudeau, a man of intelligence and integrity, had a vision of Canada where linguistic barriers would fall and people would live in peace and harmony in a strong united Canada, from sea to shining sea.

Would the renewing of our National Emblem with a ‘Touch of Blue’, along the lines of the Unity Flag, be a fitting tribute to honour the legacy of the man who instituted our two official languages, thereby reflecting our linguistic duality on our National Emblem?

What do the people say? Where do our federal parties stand on this issue?

Seulement cette semaine, un jour avant le décès malheureux d’un grand et courageux premier ministre, nous avons amené un sujet concernant le drapeau pour l’unité qui symbolise les Canadiens francophones et anglophones. M. Trudeau, un homme d’intelligence et d’intégrité, visionnait un Canada où les barrières linguistiques s’écrouleraient et où le peuple vivrait en paix et en harmonie dans un Canada fort et uni, ‘a mare usque ad mari’.

Est-ce que le renouvellement de notre Emblème National ayant un ‘accent bleu’ de la même façon que le drapeau pour l’unité, serait un hommage approprié pour honorer l'héritage de l'homme qui a institué nos deux langues officielles, reflètant ainsi notre dualité linguistique sur notre Emblème National?

Que pense le peuple? Que pensent nos partis fédéraux à ce sujet?
